Carved and Turned Vessels

Most of my medium and all of my large bowls are hand-carved, steamed repeatedly and sanded smooth. They usually have the same non-toxic finish I use on my spoons.

I am uneasy using imported woods for my vessels. It is often difficult to confirm the provenence of exotics and I don't care to contribute to the pressure on endangered rainforests. Many tropical woods are also toxic. Our small farm has a good supply of cherry, mulberry and maple and I am often given wood by friends and neighbors.

I have carved very few bowls the past several years because I like to take a lot of care in getting them to a satisfactory form and finish.

Prices for bowls start at $45 for a small simple piece to over $1,500. No two are exactly alike. For more information, e-mail me at TR@apgwilym-trwilliams.com
